Zhan Guoping, "a murder convict who refused to confess to his crimes," was executed at Jining in Shandong Province, Qilu Evening News reported. Zhan was the first person in the province to be sentenced to death without having confessed to his crime, the newspaper said. Zhan did not utter a single word to police after he was arrested in late 1999, but the court had enough evidence to convict him of the murder of a local factory director, the report added.
