ZIMBABWE: FORTY-NINE ON DEATH ROW

there are forty nine inmates on death row at Harare Central Prison, Chief Superintendent Chomurenga told the Zimbabwean Senate Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights. One inmate was sentenced to death 13 years ago for murder. “I spend 23 hours of the day confined in our cells and every time I hear the doors being unlocked, I just think they have come to take me.” Another inmate on death row said the trauma they went through also affected the prison guards.
