Shepherd Mazango, sentenced to death in November 2009 for murder, challenged the constitutionality of the death penalty at the Zimbabwean Supreme Court saying that the death penalty offends the Constitution. On September 6, 2002, Mazango and his two accomplices allegedly beat a Marondera farmer to death with a log and robbed him.
