5 York County deputies had to restrain Bobby Lee Holmes when Circuit Court Judge John Hayes sentenced him to die. The 12-member jury had recommended a sentence of death for the 1989 rape, robbery and murder of 86-year-old Mary Stewart.This is the second time Holmes has been sentenced to die in the attack on Stewart. The S.C. Supreme Court granted him a new trial in 1999.
