A 2-year moratorium on executions of death row inmates was rejected by the Assembly Judiciary Committee. A few members in a voice vote supported the Senate-approved Senate Bill 254 (Senate approved it on March 18, 13 votes for and 8 against), which would have placed a moratorium on capital punishment while the legislature conducted a study into whether Nevada should continue to execute prisoners. The moratorium had been proposed by Sen. Mark James, R-Las Vegas.
