A 22-year-old Navajo man convicted of stabbing to death a woman and her granddaughter has become the only Native American in the country who's facing execution by federal authorities. Lezmond Mitchell is also the 1st person to be sentenced to death in a U.S. District Court in Arizona. Judge Mary Marguia told Mitchell that she was upholding the May jury verdict ordering his execution because of the brutality of the October 28, 2001 crime and the family's suffering. He was convicted of the deaths of Alyce Slim, 65, and Tiffany Lee.
