A Bangladeshi man was sentenced to hang for burning a woman with acid, in the second death penalty handed down for the crime this month.
Mohammad Saiful Islam was sentenced in absentia by the Tribunal for Acid Crime Control in the capital Dhaka for throwing acid on a woman in 1994 over a personal dispute, maiming her for life.
Islam is a fugitive but will be hanged if he is arrested, Judge Meer Awlad Hossain said in his sentence.
The death penalty is subject to appeal and confirmation by the High Court.
At least a dozen people are in jail over acid attacks, but no one has been executed over it since the death penalty was introduced for the crime in the 1980s.
