A court in Bangladesh condemned a man to death for killing his wife. The Prevention of Women and Child Repression court in Commilla convicted Bahar Mia of battering Shamina to death over a dowry dispute on November 1, 2000. Mia's mother and brother were acquitted of complicity.
The same court gave life terms to Arifur Rahman, Mahbubur Rahman and Sayem for abducting two girls on May 29, 2001. Mobarak Hossain was given life imprisonment for violating his stepbrother's wife.
