A British hairdresser could face the death penalty after being charged with drug dealing in the United Arab Emirates.
The 59-year-old woman, who has not been named, was arrested for allegedly selling a cannabis joint to an Arab. Both tested positive for drugs. The woman claims she uses marijuana to ease permanent headaches and has a doctor's certificate.
A spokesman for the Ras al-Khaimah prosecutor said: "She said she uses drugs to kill the pain."
Trafficking carries the death penalty. She has appealed to be deported.
