A call for child killers to receive the death penalty is to be voted on by Ulster councillors tonight. DUP MLA Jim Shannon is hoping his proposal will pave the way for new legislation to be introduced at Westminster. He is calling on Newtownards councillors to support a motion for "the reintroduction of the death penalty for those convicted of child murder". Mr Shannon is further asking local DUP MP Iris Robinson to bring the proposal to Westminster as an Early Day Motion. Although the move may be seen by some as extreme, the alderman believes it is the only way to prevent more killings. "The time is right for the death penalty to be brought back," he insisted. Mr Shannon answered his critics by highlighting the recent horrific murders of three English schoolgirls, Milly Dowler, Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman. (
