A convicted murderer was given a last minute reprieve by the family of the victim in Saveh, south of Tehran. Khan-Mohammad Mohammadi, who had killed Mohammad Moradi in Shirkhan Qala village in February 2002 over a land dispute, had received the death sentence by the court and was to be hanged at the scene of murder in the morning. However, he survived hanging after Moradi's family pardoned him on the condition that he migrates from the village with all his family in 24 hours and leaves his and his family's land to them. The Public Relations Office of Saveh police in a statement announced that if Mohammadi refuses to carry out what the Moradis have asked him, the sentence will be immediately executed on January 6.
