A court in Indonesia's Bali island upheld the death sentence against Mukhlas, also known as Ali Ghufron, a militant convicted of playing a key role in the 2002 bombings. A lower court had sentenced Mukhlas to death in October 2002 on charges the Afghan-trained preacher had overall control of the bombings on October 12, 2002, that killed 202 people, mostly foreign tourists.
Judge I Made Tara, head of the Bali High court, said the appellate court in Bali upheld the lower court's ruling against Mukhlas.
"The court has reached a decision. The ruling against Mukhlas has been upheld because it was fitting. We thought it was already correct," judge I Made Tara said.
Mukhlas was one of three to receive the death penalty for his role in the blast.
The Bali High Court has upheld all of the three death sentences.
