a court in Vietnam handed down eight death sentences, 18 life sentences and 11 jail terms of 8-20 years on 37 local people who possessed and traded a total of nearly 19.5 kg of heroin, according to local newspaper New Hanoi. The Hanoi People's Court gave the death penalty to Tran Huy Dong, Nguyen Thi My (woman), Bui Van Cong, Nguyen Van Tinh, Nguyen Ngoc Quynh, Do Van Lam, Bui Van Thinh and Song A Tenh. Dong and My led the trafficking ring that bought nearly 19.5 kg of heroin in Son La and northern Hoa Binh province, transported the drug to Hai Phong, Hanoi capital and northern Hung Yen province, and sold them in southern Ho Chi Minh City between September 2005 and April 2006.
