The court handed down the death sentences on Nguyen Ngoc Kiem, a 50-year-old from Hanoi, and a man named Pham Van Yen from northern Son La province. It was alleged that Kiem and his accomplices bought over 17.6 kg of heroin, 7.3 kg of opium and 14 pills of lab-made drugs in Son La and sold them in Hanoi from late 1997 to late 2004.
