A death row inmate from Memphis will get a new sentencing hearing because his lawyer failed to do anything during sentencing in the man's 1982 trial for a double murder, a federal appeals court said yesterday. A 3-judge panel of the 6th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals affirmed Gary Bradford Cone's conviction for beating an elderly Memphis couple to death during a 2-day crime spree in August 1980.
