A delegation of the European Parliament PES Group visited China at the end of May, on the invitation of the Communist Party and the Chinese Government. MEPs confirmed that "discussions became problematic when questions were raised which were considered sensitive for Beijing: democratisation, public freedom, human rights and especially the death penalty".
