A delegation of the Kirikkale Relatives of Martyrs Association led by the chairman Mehmet Gencer, criticized the government's decision to postpone the capital punishment given to Abdullah Ocalan, the head of terrorist organization, during a visit to President Suleyman Demirel. Demirel stressed that he shared the grief of relatives of martyrs, but emphasised that "We should await the European Court of Human Rights' (ECHR) decision. The ECHR cannot change our court's decision. This means that the verdict would not be changed. The Ocalan file will be discussed at the parliament. It is parliament's duty to discuss whether or not execution of the death sentence will be beneficial for us. All I want from you is patience."
