A division bench of the Kerala High court meted out the death sentence to "Ripper Chacko", 54, for the gruesome murder of a five-member family, including three children, in the Idukki district in August 1988. Chacko was accused of trespassing in the house of the victims, Johnny and Mariakutty and hitting them and their children, Rani, 15, Hony, 11, and Sony, 9, on the head with an axe, causing grievous injuries. He then doused them with diesel and left them to burn to death.
