Angola's Assistant Attorney-General Cunha Caetano, speaking in Geneva at the 56th session of the UN Human Rights Commission, denied reports by Amnesty International that his country's armed forces have been involved in human rights violations. Amnesty's report, released the previous week, said that the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), in pursuing Jonas Savimbi's UNITA rebels in the southern parts of the war-torn country, routinely detained, tortured and executed civilians suspected of being UNITA supporters.
