A division bench of the Lahore High Court has converted death sentence of three convicts into life imprisonment.
The bench consisting of Justice Ali Nawaz Chowhan and Justice Rustam Ali Malik held that the prosecution had failed to prove charges against the convicts who were given death sentence by a trial court in Gujrat.
The appellants, Waris, Nasir and Tahir told the court that they were not present at the place of incident, but the police implicated them in the murder of Liaqat on the behest of their rivals.
They pointed out that the prosecution had failed to produce any eyewitness in the trial court, but the additional sessions judge still gave death sentences.
