a division bench of the Lahore High Court in Pakistan, consisting of Justice Tariq Shamim and Justice Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry, commuted the death sentence of Muhammad Irshad to life imprisonment. The Narowal Additional Sessions Court sentenced Irshad to death on May 30, 2005, and also directed him to pay Rs 50,000 to the legal heirs of the deceased in compensation. According to the prosecution, Irshad and his two accomplices attacked Arshad on October 3, 2000, and stabbed him to death. The bench observed, “In view of the young age of the appellate at the time of occurrence coupled with the fact that he had only caused a single below to the deceased meaning thereby that he probably did not have the intention to kill.”
