A federal jury in Gainesville sentenced William LeCroy Jr., 33, to die by lethal injection under the federal carjacking statute. Last week, the jury convicted LeCroy in the Oct. 7, 2001, fatal carjacking of 30-year-old Joann Tiesler at her Gilmer County home. After he raped and killed Tiesler by slitting her throat and stabbing her repeatedly in the back, LeCroy drove off with her car. It is just the 2nd capital sentence obtained out of 3 sought by the U.S. attorney's office in Atlanta since Congress reinstated the death penalty for federal crimes in 1988.
