A federal jury returned a death sentence against Chadrick Fulks, who pleaded guilty to kidnapping and carjacking resulting in the death of a woman. Fulks pleaded guilty in the death of Alice Donovan. He's also accused of killing Samantha Burns during a crime spree that lasted about 2 weeks in late 2002. Fulks, 27, and co-defendant Branden Basham had escaped from a Kentucky jail before authorities say they went on a 17-day, multistate crime spree. Basham was serving a 5-year sentence for writing a bad check, and Fulks was awaiting trial on robbery charges. Both Fulks and Basham also face state and federal charges in West Virginia in connection to Burns' death. Neither woman's body has been found. This was South Carolina's 1st federal death penalty trial. The 2 are being tried separately. Basham will stand trial in the fall.
