A French humanitarian group said it was opposed to the death sentences passed on Pakistani extremists for the murder of French nationals, even though some of its members had personal links with the victims. "We are against the death penalty," said Francoise Rudetzki, Secretary-General of SOS Attentats (SOS Attacks), a civil plaintiff in French investigations into the 11 French killed in 2002. "We are sorry to hear this decision which is contrary to the values we defend," she told AFP. On 30 June a Pakistani court sentenced three Islamic militants to death for plotting a May 2002 suicide car bomb attack that killed 11 French naval engineers and two Pakistani bystanders in the southern port city Karachi.
