A Gordon county jury set a death penalty for quadruple murderer Jerry William Jones. Jones had pleaded guilty to the January 4, 2004 murders. Jones told police he killed his former girlfriend's parents, sister and their daughter to get back at his ex-sweetheart because she was leaving him. The victims were: Tommy and Nola Blaylock, ages 59 and 61, Georgia Bradley, 34, and Jerri Jones, his 10-month old daughter with former girlfriend Melissa Peeler. Judge Carey Nelson has not yet set a date for the sentencing. "We have never minimized the crimes," the defence lawyer said later. "The crimes were horrendous. But they were caused by mental illness, and the death penalty isn't appropriate."
