A Grenadian High Court judge ordered the immediate release of three men among a group originally sentenced to death for the 1983 murder of former Prime Minister Maurice Bishop and members of his Cabinet.
Justice Brian Alleyne ruled that the detention of the three men - Andy Mitchell, Vincent Joseph and Cosmos Richardson - was unconstitutional.
The government immediately announced that it would appeal the ruling.
The detainees were sentenced to death for the 1983 killing which occurred during a counter-coup against the Party of the Revolutionary Government (PRG).
Years later, the sentences were commuted to life imprisonment.
