A High Court judge sentenced Chinedu Uzoma for murdering a government official with a cutlass. Delivering judgment, Justice Joseph O. Kayode Oyewole ruled that the only statutory punishment for murder was the death penalty, "The sentence of the court upon you Chinedu Uzoma is that you be hanged by the neck until you be dead and may the lord have mercy on your soul."
