a high official in Cairo made public in a report by Ansa that eight Egyptian nationals will be executed in Libya in the next three months. Mahmud Ouf, director of the consular section of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, said the information was given to the Egyptian embassy in Tripoli by the Libyan authorities. The eight are allegedly responsible for a series of murders, committed between 1994 and 2003. The victims were five Egyptians, two Libyans, an Algerian and a Palestinian. The Egyptian embassy in Tripoli managed to secure an annulment of the death penalty of two other Egyptian nationals, sentenced to death at first instance for the same crimes, after the two families of the victims accepted compensation.
