A July poll of Carolinians by the Charlotte Observer-MBTV News Carolinas Poll found: only 45% preferred the death penalty as the appropriate penalty for those convicted of murder; 62% said they favoured a moratorium of executions until it is determined that the death penalty is fair; 64% think that the Carolinas should exempt those with mental retardation from the death penalty.
