The killing of Suai militia leader, Olivio Moruk in West Timor, was reportedly linked to the Indonesian military. It was claimed that the elimination of East Timorese paramilitary leaders is part of a program against those who knew too much about the workings of the Indonesian army. Sources claimed Moruk had been executed by "ninjas" who were members of the Kopassus force. Indonesia has announced it will send troops to West Timor to find the killers. The United Nations completed its forced evacuation of all staff from West Timor on September 8, 2000 after three UN workers were killed following Moruk's funeral. (Sources: Abix, 09/09/2000) (somm)
