It’s the third time Mitchell has received the death sentence. Mitchell was 1st convicted and sentenced to die in 1992. That sentence was overturned on Aug 14, 2001 (see) because a forensic expert lied on the stand. Mitchell was tried and convicted again in 2002, and sentenced to death on Oct 31, 2002 (see). That death sentence was also overturned on May 31, 2006 (see).
