A jury says that Scott Erskine, who molested and strangled 2 boys in March 1993, should die for his crimes. Erskine, 41, was convicted last Oct. 1 in the deaths of 13-year-old Charlie Keever and 9-year-old Jonathan Sellers. The same jury that found Erskine guilty deadlocked 11-1 in favor of the death penalty and a penalty phase retrial was ordered on December 15, 2003 (see), culminating in a jury recommendation that Erskine be put to death rather than incarcerated for the rest of his life. Erskine was in prison in 2001 for raping a woman when advanced technology enabled scientists to tie him to the boys' slaying through DNA. Judge Kenneth So will sentence determine Erskine on July 28.
