A notice of appeal on behalf of Malama Amina Lawan was filed at the Sharia Court of Appeal by her lead counsel, Barrister A. M. Yauri, under the instructions of the Women's Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA). The Secretary-General of WRAPA, Hajiya Saudatu Mahdi, stated that the appeal had become necessary after the Upper Sharia Court, Funtua, on August 19, this year, ruled and affirmed the death sentence by stoning of Amina over charges of adultery. "WRAPA and the team of defence lawyers of Amina are not satisfied with the judgement delivered by the Upper Sharia Court, Funtua, in which it upheld the judgement of the Sharia Court, Bakori because the Upper Sharia Court did not address all the issues raised in the appeals," she pointed out.
