A Palestinian security court sentenced a Palestinian policeman to death by firing squad for murdering a fellow security man in a revenge killing. The court found Izz el-Din al-Arabeed guilty of gunning down policeman Nidal Nasser earlier in May. Arabeed was avenging the killing of his brother at a police checkpoint in 1997.Khaled al-Qidra, attorney general of security courts in the Palestinian Authority, urged Palestinians, fighting an uprising against Israeli occupation in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, to avoid internal strife. He told Reuters that Palestinian President Yasser Arafat must ratify the death sentence before it can be carried out. Five people have been executed for crimes and for collaboration with Israeli intelligence services since 1994.
