A slight majority of Canadians favoured the death penalty last month, suggests an opinion poll. The Leger Marketing survey found 52.9 %of respondents backed capital punishment, while 43 % opposed it and 4.1 % had no opinion.the survey suggests a big opinion shift since 1995, when a poll found 69 % for bringing back capital punishment. The death penalty was banned in Canada in 1975. Canada's last state-run executions were in 1962.It used a sample of 1,508 people telephoned by pollsters from Aug. 3 to 13.
