A special agency with staff from the Corrections Department, warfare units and police has been set up to handle riots and jailbreaks at prisons all over Thailand.
Siwa Saengmanee, director-general of the Corrections Department, said a special centre based at Bang Khwang central prison has been established to deal with any unexpected trouble at all prisons throughout the country.
He said the new agency was necessary due to the higher number of convicts on death row and those serving 50-year life sentences - the group most likely to attempt escapes.
