A Tehran court sentenced six members of a notorious gang of robbers to death, the Persian daily Jomhuri-ye Eslami reported.
They had pleaded guilty to pilfering some 1.25bn rials in the form of foreign and Iranian cash, gold and checks in the capital Tehran, and the northeastern Mashhad and southern Shiraz cities, it said.
The convicts are accomplices of other 16 robbers, already under arrest, nicknamed the "gray shadows".
This gang had been stealing money for years through ambushing wealthy clients in front of banks.
Police succeeded in rounding up the gang after arresting the three most notorious members, identified only by their first names as Morteza, Ahmad and Hossein.
