A Vietnamese man was sentenced to death for raping and killing a woman in her home. Do Manh Trinh, 22, was found guilty by the People's Court of the northeastern port city of Haiphong for strangling to death Nguyen Thi My Hanh, a 25-year-old secondary school teacher, on July 22, 2004. Trinh, a manual labourer, pretended that he needed to check her house's water pipes but, on entering, pounced on her. After raping his victim, he strangled her and then fled on her motorbike, a court official said. He was arrested a week later.
