About 3,000 residents of Halabja rallied to demand Saddam Hussein's execution in the town where an estimated 5,000 people were killed in a 1988 gas attack. The demonstrators marched from a monument to the attack, allegedly ordered by Saddam's first cousin Ali Hassan al-Majid, to the town's cemetery before handing over a memorandum to local members of a Kurdish parliament.
"Saddam and Chemical Ali should be tried and executed in Halabja," said teacher Barzhan Iskander, who joined the rally along with clerics and local officials.
"Execution is not enough for Saddam," said Sarwar Ahmed, another resident.
