Adnan Mat Jusoh was sentenced to death by the High Court of Malaysia after being found guilty of killing his girlfriend in. The defence was deemed not to have proven their claim that the accused was insane at the time of the incident as he was under the influence of pil kuda (methamphetamine).
Jusoh, 40, had been charged with causing the death of Mastura Kamarul Jamal, 26, at an unnumbered house in Kampung Pasir Jelatang on January 6, 2000.
Presiding Judge Sulaiman said he had come to his conclusion after considering the evidence given by witnesses including a doctor and psychiatrist Dr Suaran Singh.
"The evidence given by Dr Suaran, who examined the accused a day after the incident, can be accepted by the court," he said.
"In the examination, he found the accused able to talk normally and not in a state of hallucination or psychosis," he said.
Sulaiman said the evidence was strengthened by statements from witnesses who were at the scene of the incident, and by the accused having run away.
