An Afghan National Army soldier has been awarded death penalty as he was accused of killing a military officer in northern Afghanistan, security officials said on 26 November 2019.
The 209th Shaheen Corps said in a statement a court sentenced Syed Musa to death on charges of deliberately killing Major Hashmatullah in late October, Pajhokw Afghan News reported.
The statement said Musa broke into the room of Hashmatullah and shot him six times in the chest with his M16 assault rifle.
Musa was enraged by the non-payment of salary for three months due to his absence from duty, the military corps said.
The court said the convict reserved the right to file an appeal against the verdict under Article 48 of the Military Penal Code.
