Afghanistan's ruling Taliban said that the investigation against detained French journalist Michel Peyrard was nearly over and that the findings would be presented in court soon.
A Taliban spokesman in the eastern city of Jalalabad told the Pakistan-based AIP news agency that the court would see the evidence "in a day or two". The spokesman said Peyrard was accused of spying, an offence that carries the death penalty.
Peyrard, 44, was arrested near Jalalabad after entering Afghanistan illegally disguised under a head-to-toe Muslim women's veil to report for Paris Match magazine on conditions there since the start of US-led bombing strikes.
The Taliban are also holding a Japanese journalist for illegally entering the country. The spokesman said he was being well treated and was in good health.
