ALABAMA (USA): HOLLY WOOD EXECUTED

Holly Wood, 50, black, was executed in Alabama. He was accused of shooting his former girlfriend Ruby Gosha (34, black) to death as she slept in 1993. His attorneys claimed he had an IQ of 70 or less and that his trial lawyers wrongly failed to tell the jury about his mental limitations.
Prosecutors said he was not as mentally disabled as claimed, and the U.S. Supreme Court rejected his appeal.
Wood becomes the 4th condemned inmate to be put to death this year in Alabama and the 48th overall since the state resumed capital punishment in 1983. Wood becomes the 37th condemned inmate to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1225th overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977.
