Alla Dudaeva, the widow of the first Chechen president Dzhokhar Dudaev, called on the Nobel Prize Committee to strip Alexander Solzhenitsyn of the title of Nobel laureate because of his speeches in favour of restoring capital punishment for "terrorists".
Dudaeva and the group supporting her initiative consider that "being an intelligent, predictable, and consistent person, Mr. Solzhenitsyn is quite aware of the possible consequences of restoration of capital punishment in Russia, and his speeches are nothing else but a well-measured step prompted by his political views."
