Amnesty International said in its report for 2003 that "gross" human rights violations continued in Saudi Arabia where discrimination against women also remained "endemic".
"Gross human rights violations continued and were exacerbated by government 'anti-terrorism' policies and acts of violence, some of which the authorities blamed on Al-Qaeda sympathizers," Amnesty said.
Torture and ill-treatment also "remained rife. At least 50 people were executed," added Amnesty, which said it was still being denied access to the kingdom.
"The number of those who remained under sentence of death was not known" while, "flogging and amputation continued to be imposed by courts as judicial corporal punishment," it said.
