An agreement to set up a Caribbean Court of Justice as the region's final court of appeal was discussed during a meeting of leaders from the 15-member regional grouping known as Caricom. The current final court of appeal for the region is the British Privy Council - made up of members of the House of Lords. In recent years, much of the attention on the appeals process has focused on the use of the death penalty in several of the former British colonies. (see Jamaica)
