An opinion poll by "The Sunday Times" has found a majority of Western Australians support the death penalty. 54% of the 298 people surveyed were in favour of the death penalty, 39% opposed the death penalty and 7% were undecided. 59% of respondents wanted the Western Australian Government to hold a referendum on the issue. Western Australian Premier, Richard Court, had said he would consider holding a referendum if there was strong community support for one.
