Angel Mateo, 35, has been sentenced today to life in prison without the possibility of parole. He was convicted of killing a mentally ill man in 1996. He was later sentenced to 130 years to life in prison for three street killings in 1995. On February 25, the Court of Appeals in Albany vacated Mateo's death sentence on grounds that the state's 1995 capital punishment law was constitutionally flawed. It upheld his murder conviction but ordered judge John Connell to resentence him to life in prison.
