Apri 15, 2002: an Azerbaijani representative submitted to the Council of Europe documents confirming the ratification of a number of European conventions.
Council of Europe Secretary-General Walter Schwimmer welcomed the ratification by Azerbaijan of the European Convention on Human Rights and an additional protocol banning the death penalty.
"Fulfilling one of its key commitments taken on the eve of the admission to our organization, Azerbaijan is making an important step allowing all people living on its territory to be under the protection of clauses of this document," Schwimmer said.
