April, 24/26, 2002: Taiyuan Municipal Courts, in Shanxi Province, convened meetings to announce judgments on 117 criminal suspects in 10 places.
They also executed principal criminals Zheng Yongli, a kidnapper, and Li Zhifeng, a counterfeit banknote trafficker.
A spokesman for the Intermediate People's Court told the press that from now on, they would no longer use the format of convening meetings to announce judgments on suspects.
